Expert Answers to Butterfly Concerns
Butterfly Faqs

1. Why do we ship butterflies in cold dark boxes?

Our Butterflies are shipped in insulated coolers with an ice pack to keep them in a dormant state.
These boxes imitate a cool night. Butterflies are not active at night. They are active in warmth and light.
We are imitating nature's way of protecting butterflies.

You will need to keep your butterflies cool until 1-2 hours before your release. Instructions are included with your shippment.
You will need to refreeze the ice packs. You can always call us and we will discuss this over the phone with you.

2. Why do we ship our butterflies in envelopes instead of the release box?

Each butterfly is placed in a glassine envelope. If the box gets dropped this protects them so they will not be injured. This will protect
them from injuring there wings and body. They rest very comfortable with this method. These envelopes are made special for them
and they are able to breathe with a natural air flow.

Complete instructions are given to transfer them to a mass release box if that is what you choose.

3. Why do we only ship next day air?

The ice packs will melt and they will need to be refrozen. We guarantee our butterflies "Arrive Alive" and due to the ice packs this
is the safest method of shipping. They need attending as soon as they arrive.

4. Weather and time of day!

Temperatures must be 60 degrees or above for Monarchs to fly
Temperatures must be 70 degrees or above for Painted Ladies to fly.

Hard Rain butterflies will not fly. What is Hard Rain? If you do not want to stand out in the rain yourself then the butterflies will not fly.
Complete instructions are given telling you how to care for your butterflies until you can release them.

Butterflies must be released 1-2 hours before dusk. They need time to find food and shelter for the night.
